The Xavier Fiol Gallery, founded in 1989, is
located in a Gothic palace in the old town of Palma de Mallorca.
The focus of its activity is the promotion of new tendencies in
contemporary art. The diffusion of the work of a group of young
artists through whom collaboration was established with other galleries
and public institutions marked its initial stage, which has been
consolidated from 1990 on through conferences and international
art fairs (Arco-Madrid, Art-Miami, Art Cologne, Arte-Lisboa, Artissima-Torino
). The Gallery inaugurated a new space in 2004, after holding over
100 exhibitions, always geared towards the promotion of contemporary
art. Thus, the gallery has also tried to spread art by organising
cultural events such as conferences (Joan Fontcuberta, Giusseppe
Panza di Biumo, etc...) and through initiatives like the Palmaphoto
Photography Festival. Xavier Fiol has been a member of the 'consiglio
directivo' of the Artissima fair in Turin and of the organising
committee of Arco (Madrid). The Gallery is the founder of the Associació
Art Palma Contemporani (Palma Contemporary Art Association).
